A source told us, "I hesitate to use this cliché again but 'Houston, we have a problem.' The Houston September week-two sample (Total Persons 6+) has dropped significantly, the weekly in-tab dropping to a record low, losing 70. Conversely, Philadelphia is up slightly and continues to be traveling in the right direction."

Male-oriented radio programming and formats with an upper-income skew tend to be common denominator for the top-15 formats driving traffic to radio websites. The top three-formats are Modern Rock, AAA and Sports. These findings come from a study of media websites released by The Media Audit. Sold in tandem, on-air spots and radio Web sites could tantalize political campaigns and earn radio stations big revenues, according to a new study by the Media Audit. Bob Jordan, president of the Houston-based research company, says, "Radio stations have a great opportunity to boost their political revenues by aggressively selling their Web sites in addition to selling their airtime. Nearly 70% of radio Web site visitors are active voters compared to approximately 60% for the general market. That's a 15% advantage with radio Web sites."

Berman, the Democrat congressman who represents Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley in California, says terrestrial broadcasters get “an unfair competitive advantage" over Internet radio and satellite radio because they do not have to pay performance fees for the sound recordings they air. As chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property, Berman intends to fix that.
