INTERNET RADIO DAY OF SILENCE

Bridge Ratings Release

Tuesday June 26, 2007 thousands of Internet radio stations across America turned silent in symbolic protest of the increase in royalty rates proposed by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB). The proposal includes increases retroactive to January 2006. Internet radio broadcasters citing that these increases would decimate the Internet radio industry and put most Internet radio businesses off the air, turned off their streaming on Tuesday in an effort to move listeners to contact their congressmen to support a counter proposed bill that offers more acceptable rates.

MUSIC HITS MAINSTREAM PRICE

Ross Rubin – Engadget

JACK FM has been like those massive spaceships from the movie Independence Day, coming from a foreign land (Canada) to hover over American cities before deploying their beam of massive personality destruction. When it landed on WCBS -FM in New York two years ago, fans of the station's previous oldies format were aghast as their favorite station was unceremoniously tossed off the air. Today, though, while its once signature deejay, radio hall of fame inductee Bruce "Cousin Brucie" Morrow, has moved on to more Sirius pursuits, the old songs and familiar jingle of ye ole WCBS-FM can be heard better than ever at 101.1 FM on the New York radio dial -- if you have an HD Radio receiver, that is.

THE ONE THING

In a "new media" environment, Rockers find television to be indispensable.

Jacobs Media Release

Life may be a series of choices, but when it comes to media and technology, an "old medium" – television – remains on top. Despite having hi-tech options to choose from, three in ten Rock radio listeners pick TV as most indispensable, besting the Internet, cell phones, FM radio, and iPods.  While a difficult theoretical question to answer, the results of Tech Survey III point to the power of compelling content.  Despite the plethora of cool, cutting-edge technology, a plurality of survey takers opt for the good old tube as their top choice. This says a lot about the medium’s ability to create ‘must-see TV’ in an increasingly crowded media environment."
