PODCASTING ELEVATES LISTENING

FMQB

Bridge Ratings has released a new study examining the effect of podcasting on station listenership. The results show that recall of a station is improved due to listening to podcasts. Bridge Ratings President Dave Van Dyke says, "This is the first study I know of that uncovers the true power of podcasting as a means to capture radio station listening done by listeners who download radio programming. We had hoped that this technology would empower radio and this first-look study confirms that podcasting will impact listening and ratings."

CALLER’S TELEPHONE NUMBER IN BREACH

CBSC Release

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) released its decision concerning the broadcast of two episodes of the morning show Le p’tit monde à Frenchie on CJMS-AM, the first on January 6 and the second on January 10.  During the first episode, on which a caller identified himself as “Johnny” (not his true name, as listeners later learned), there was an exchange in which the caller had some disagreement with the hosts.  After the call was suddenly disconnected, “Frenchie”, apparently miffed, gave the caller’s number out on the air.  Four days later, another listener called up and provided “Johnny”’s real name.  The complainant, whose identity and phone number had been revealed, was troubled that the station had not employed the necessary means to avoid the occurrence.

While a slew of competitors gearing up, Research in Motion has responded with a peppy and pretty device -- one that does a lot right

Stephen H. Wildstrom – BusinessWeek

Everyone these days seems to be drawing a bead on Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of the BlackBerry. Microsoft officials say they are readying new software for server computers that will turn Pocket PCs into "BlackBerry killers." Companies from phone giant Nokia to startup Sproqit Technologies offer competing services that forward e-mail and other data to handhelds. And it's not just enemy products that threaten RIM: There's a remote possibility that a long-running patent dispute could lead to a court-ordered halt of U.S. BlackBerry sales.
