Ban on Communications Election Results to be Repealled

The federal government will repeal the ban on communicating election results while polls are still open. If passed, new legislation will make it legal for journalists and social media users to discuss results on various media platforms, including TV, online and portable media devices.

The move will legalize a common yet controversial practice on the Internet and social media networks like Twitter and Facebook; journalist reports’ and user generated content had often been seen as violating the spirit if not the letter of the existing legislation.
